BLP: Harvesting Success for Fifteen Years
In 2003, BLP embarked on a plan to provide the widest possible range of expert legal advice under a single roof. Along the way, we acquired a presence across the entire Central American isthmus. Starting in Costa Rica, BLP now has experts positioned to help clients in Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Through a business development office in Madrid, we have also acquired a foothold in Europe. By forming teams of specialists from 27 practice areas we can meet our client’s goals by addressing every type of legal issue that may arise during the course of a project. We consider ourselves the best ally a client can have, a supposition with which over 500 contented business entities agree. In 2018 we are in the midst of harvesting hard-earned success.
To date, BLP has enjoyed good fortune: Our efforts have been recognized by distinguished global legal guides such as Who’s Who Legal, Latin Lawyer, and Legal 500. We are proud of being cited for consecutive years as a regional Legal Firm of the Year by Chambers and Partners and the International Financial Law Review. In recent months, the Firm has received international praise for overseeing and closing complex, large-scale financial transactions, culminating in awards for “Best Infrastructure Financing in Central America” and “Project Financing of the Year”.
In dollar terms that were heretofore unimagined, we have surpassed the economic expectations of the region at a financial leadership level. For example, we advised Deutsche Bank and HSBC on the issuance of 30-year bonds in a Euro amount equivalent to $1,000,000,000. On a daily basis, we advise Canada’s Scotiabank on all aspects related to its acquisition and operation of Citigroup’s retail and commercial banking in Costa Rica and Panama.
The fair-minded competitiveness of our firm, in concert with active participation in a client’s pursuits, permits us to bring economic, environmental, and social value to the communities in which we participate on the client’s behalf.
Thanks to our commitment to conserving the environment, BLP is the first Neutral Carbon Legal Firm in Central America. For five years in a row, we have received the Ecological Blue Flag Award in recognition of our efforts in support of biological diversity.
One of our proudest achievements, however, is ongoing and takes place behind the scenes. Our nurturing workplace culture helps us to recruit and retain the best legal talent in the region. This year, in our initial participation in the Great Place to Work Certification Program, we won a certificate for something we’ve known all along: BLP is a Great Place to Work!
Our fervent commitment to contributing to Central America’s economic, ecological, and social development is permanent. Working in teams to meet the goals of our local and transnational clients helps us to further our commitment. Going forward, we invite corporations with similar aspirations of broadly beneficial, far-reaching success to join with us in their endeavors. BLP is the most talented, versatile, and dedicated legal partner a business manager could want in Centroamérica.
