BLP is the only firm recognized as a Pro Bono Leading Light in Central America

Over 70 non-profit organizations received 4,000 hours of free BLP counseling.

Thanks to altruistic work in favor of 70 non-profit non-governmental organizations, BLP is the only firm in the region honored as a member of Pro Bono Leading Lights Central America 2018 by Latin Lawyer and the Cyrus R. Vance Center. The two organizations survey law firms that donate legal pro bono services, but also as expand their efforts to build of a lasting pro bono infrastructure, both internally and in the legal market where they transcend.

At BLP we firmly believe that there can be no successful companies in failed societies.

For this reason, we have articulated a Sustainability strategy that realizes our commitment to developing a program of active and responsible participation in solving the problems of our society.

Pursuant to this commitment, the BLP Foundation was created in 2008. Under the direction of its President, BLP partner Vivian Liberman, the Foundation has created a pro bono legal service space for projects that impact our society on priority issues of human development, entrepreneurship, gender equity and equality, the social and labor inclusion of people with disabilities, community, education, and environmental protection and sustainability.

BLP was the first law firm in Central America to subscribe to the Cyrus R. Vance Center’s Declaration of the Americas, pledging that all of its attorneys would donate at least 20 hours of legal services annually.  This promise has resulted in:

  • 4,000+ pro bono hours from our attorneys;
  • US$ 307, 716.00 in legal services volunteered by BLP;
  • More than 70 Non-governmental organizations benefiting from our pro bono work.

BLP’s commitment to Sustainability is realized by actions that contribute to the economic, personal, and social development of the community, the country, and the region in which we practice law in increasing pursuit of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations.

Our Sustainability platform has enabled us to become the leading firm in Central America in gender equity, with 50% of our lawyers being women.

Pronounced ongoing efforts have earned us unique distinctions such as the Carbon Neutral Country Seal for 5 consecutive years and the Ecological Blue Flag for 6 years, making us the only law firm to attain these citations in Central America.
