BLP received the Award for Best Infrastructure Financing: Central America at the 2018 Project & Infrastructure Finance Awards Dinner hosted by LatinFinance.

On October 3rd, BLP received the Award for Best Infrastructure Financing: Central America at the 2018 Project & Infrastructure Finance Awards Dinner hosted by LatinFinance. As the world’s leading source of intelligence on the financial markets and economies of Latin America and the Caribbean, LatinFinance annually convenes a gathering of banks, law firms and corporations working in infrastructure to announce the most important transactions and institutions crucial to the region’s economic progress.

The LatinFinance citation honors BLP’s excellent legal advice on the issuance of corporate notes up to US$320 million by a subsidiary of Celsia, the leading Colombian company in the energy sector of which BLP served as advisor.

The complex transaction required the involvement of other top-tier legal firms in the region, as well as the corporate counsel of the leading banks that served as guarantors of the financing through trust funds constituted under the Laws of Panama and Costa Rica.

BLP underlined the importance of the deal by noting that it allows Celsia to exchange a short-term loan for a long-term (10-year) debt instrument with better conditions, improving the company’s financial profile, both in Costa Rica and Panama.

Senior Partner Luis Castro and Associate Julio Castellanos of BLP’s head office in San Jose, Costa Rica, advised Celsia throughout the transaction. This Award pays testimony to the experience and innovation of our team of lawyers, who are committed to providing the best solutions for our clients from the perspective of business partners and not solely as consultants.
