For many years in a row, Eduardo has been highly recognized as an outstanding lawyer in his practice areas by prestigious publications, such as Legal 500, Chambers & Partners, Latin Lawyer, Who’s Who Legal and IFLR 1000. He has been ranked in the top positions in Corporate Law, Telecommunications, Media & Technology, and Real Estate by Chambers and Partners. Regarding the Corporate & Commercial practice area, Eduardo represents a large number of local and transnational companies in a wide array of day-to-day issues, and is very active in mergers and acquisitions as well as in private equity issues. In Real Estate, he has been deeply involved in the development of real estate projects in coastal and urban areas of Costa Rica. His Telecommunications, Media & Technology experience includes regulatory matters, acquisition of assets, media and assets funding, and sectorial disputes. Regarding Banking & Finance, Eduardo has frequently represented the underwriters of sovereign bonds issued by the Costa Rican government in the international markets, as well as foreign banks that operate in the region.
He joined BLP as a Partner in 2007, after serving as an Associate and Partner for almost ten years at the law firm Facio & Cañas.
Born in Oxford, England, Eduardo graduated with honors from Universidad de Costa Rica in 1998. In 2000, he graduated from the Executive Program “Legal aspects of international businesses” of Instituto Centroamericano de Administración de Empresas (INCAE). He also obtained a Master’s Degree from the Law School of Georgetown University, and an LLM Degree from the Law School of Columbia University in New York City, where he graduated with honors as a “Harlen Fiske Stone Scholar” back in 2002. He was also a scholar of the Organization of American States (OAS).
Eduardo is currently an active member of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), where he also serves as Vice-president of the Latin American Council, of the International Bar Association (IBA) and other international organizations. He is also an active member of BritCham and INFOCOM.
Eduardo served as Chairman of the Costa Rican Bar Association from 2014 to 2016; the exam to be admitted to the Bar was approved during his term, which marked a turning point in the teaching and practice of law in the country, ensuring the quality of legal professionals and largely benefitting the country.
Eduardo is a founding member and first Chairman of the Yo Puedo, ¿Y Vos? Foundation, a non-profit organization aiming to find broader opportunities for the inclusion of people with Down syndrome in social environments. He has been invited as a lecturer for international events on hospitality, mergers and acquisitions, and human rights, among others.
Eduardo currently lives in San José, Costa Rica with his wife and two daughters.
