BLP joins the Pro Bono Foundation in Spain

July, 2018

Under the slogan “adding to the legal pro bono”, on June 28 BLP became one of the 28 law firms that joined the Pro Bono Foundation in Spain. This initiative will provide legal advice and professional services of specialized assistance to entities or persons who, for economic or other reasons, have difficulty accessing them, in furtherance of the Foundation’s goal to promote justice and real equality of all citizens before the law.

Other law firms that are founding members include Allen & Overy, Andersen Tax & Legal, Buffete Barrilero and Associates, Arinsa, Ashurst, Clifford Chance, Dentons, DLA Piper, Farley & Williams, Huerta & Solana, King & Wood, Mallesons, Latham & Watkins, Lean Abogados, MA Abogados, Pérez-Llorca, Ramón y Cajal Abogados, Roca Junyent, RCD, Sagardoy, Toda & Nel-lo, Watson, and White & Case.

In 2008, BLP signed the Pro Bono Declaration of the Americas, a campaign launched by the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice, promising that the lawyers of the Firm would dedicate at least 20 hours a year of pro bono legal services.

In that same year, the BLP Foundation was created, which has among its beneficiaries nongovernmental organizations whose work impacts the most vulnerable populations. Vivian Liberman, Partner of BLP, has led this initiative that in 2017 dedicated more than 1,320 hours to projects whose purpose is to influence issues such as entrepreneurship, social insertion of people with disabilities, the human rights of women, children and adolescents, environment, and sustainability.

Pro bono work at BLP is one of the actions of its sustainability strategy, through which we initiate projects aimed at contributing to the human and social development of the communities in which we have a professional presence. Our working guide is the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda.

We have realized our commitment to developing a strategy of active and responsible participation in seeking solutions to society’s problems. Our law practice helps to provide access to justice for those who lack such access. We also serve as agents that promote actions of corporate social responsibility.  We prioritize the development of promotional activities and support initiatives that increase the quality of life and the enjoyment of the rights of social sectors that may be in a situation of vulnerability.
