Multinational corporations and international businesses come to BLP for our attorneys’ extensive experience in international trade law and foreign investment regulation.
The BLP International Trade team advises clients on Central American customs laws and related policy matters, including rules of origin, and sanitary and phytosanitary measures. Our attorneys have provided clients with advice on technical barriers to trade in Central America and other countries.
Members of our International Trade team have received awards from Latin Lawyer and the Guide to the World’s Leading International Trade Lawyers for their achievement in the field, and are listed on the roster of arbitrators designated in Costa Rica’s bilateral trade agreements.
Our lawyers have represented clients in anti-dumping, safeguard and countervailing duty investigations before Costa Rican authorities at the administrative and judicial levels, making BLP’s International Trade team one of the most experienced in the region. Our litigation work also includes the management of multijurisdictional disputes dealing with unfair trade practices and infringement of intellectual property.
We regularly assist our clients with applications for benefits under the Free Trade Zone Regime, handle the related compliance and customs work it entails, and promote legislative changes for Free Trade Zones, antitrust reform, and maritime law. We also assist clients on applications for preferences under international trade agreements and advise them on how international trade obligations may affect their current and future investments or operations.
