About the appointment, Manrique says “BLP has been characterized by offering holistic advice, with a variety of practice areas and a high level of specialization. Likewise, BLP’s client portfolio is one of the most significant in the country and the region. For me, joining BLP represents a unique opportunity to grow as a lawyer and be part of one of the most successful and important legal firms in Central America.

He has a degree in Law from the Escuela Libre de Derecho University, with honorable mention summa cum laude for his thesis “The Implementation of FATCA in Costa Rica”. Additionally, he has a Specialization in International Taxation from McKenna Business School and a Specialty in Tax Law from the Technological Institute of Costa Rica.

His clients characterize Manrique as a lawyer with great attention to detail and a practical approach. As he describes his practice, “I put an immense effort into the way tax and tax implications affect businesses, worrying not only about my area, but also looking at the repercussions they can have on the client’s day-to-day operations to ensure they are impacted in the best way possible.”

Luis Chacón, partner of BLP in charge of the regional Tax practice area comments, “We have specialists in tax, tributary and customs matters, so Manrique’s experience in international taxation and fiscal restructuring will strengthen BLP’s regional practice, creating greater synergy in the team, which consequently will allow us to offer a better service to our clients.”

The year 2019 is envisioned as one that focuses on taxes for Costa Rica. Register of Shareholders, a greater familiarization with the electronic invoice, bills to implement BEPS, as well as the entry into force of the Law of Strengthening of Public Finances, are some of the topics in which companies will need help. “This is a significant fiscal year, not only because of the entry into force of the Tax Reform but also because of a variety of changes that will require companies to have specialized advice,” says Chacón.
