Rafael is a Senior Associate at BLP’s office in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. His principal practice areas are Business Law and Energy & Infrastructure.
During his years of experience, he has consulted on the obtaining and negotiation of contracts of energy supply, private and public, and the complete process from the approval of the contracts until the operation of the project. He specializes in the analysis and breakdown of PPP contracts, their benefits and shortcomings, as well as the approaches to modify such contracts in the way that best suits client interests. Rafael remains abreast of changing regulations in the energy sector, as Honduras enters a regional energy market, to better advise clients on how to adapt and make the most of these changes.
In the practice of Business Law, he drafts, reviews and analyzes contracts affecting business activities and financing, seeking a practical approach to compliance with Honduran law. Within these, he specializes in matters of distribution and structuring of acquisitions, mergers and financing. He has participated in large-scale syndicated financings of transactions such as the construction of energy parks or the worldwide operation of recognized groups in the region.
With the growth of Electronic Commerce in Honduras due to globalization, it has also specialized in the regulation of Privacy, Data & Information Security, advising multinationals in the correct handling of confidential information and electronic platform policies.
Before joining the BLP team as an associate in 2015, Rafael worked as an associate lawyer at the ABP Firm. His previous experience includes in-house lawyer at UNILEVER, an internship at the Supreme Court of Justice within the department of the Civil Court, and legal advisor to the Enrique Chicas Customs Agency.
